Dan Samsa is a London-based composer, sound artist and producer whose work moves between contemporary composition, electronic music and spatial sound. His practice explores the relationship between music, environment and human experience, often combining rigorous musical structures with field recording, immersive audio, live performance and the acoustic character of unusual spaces.
 

Growing up in South East London, Samsa was surrounded by contrasting musical worlds, from singing in the vast acoustic of Southwark Cathedral to the bass-heavy sound systems and live music culture of the city around him. That breadth continues to shape a practice resistant to genre, moving between acoustic and electronic sound and treating recording techniques, architecture and technology as creative materials in themselves.
 

His recorded work spans several distinct chapters. Under his earlier Warsnare moniker, Samsa released Warchestra, an orchestral-electronic album featuring Kae Tempest. Contours marked his debut album under his own name, Dan Samsa, an immersive work conceived in 360° sound that explored spatial audio as part of the composition itself. More recently, SPIRITUS, created in collaboration with 2Makeit and commissioned by Rochester Cathedral, developed from creative sound workshops with men in HMP Rochester and HMP High Down prisons. Bringing those recordings into dialogue with cathedral organ, spoken word and spatial audio, the work reflects a growing focus on site-specific composition and the ways radically different spaces and human experiences can be connected through sound.
 

Alongside his own work, Samsa works as a producer, composer and creative collaborator with other artists, moving fluidly between writing, recording, electronic production and the development of ambitious live and spatial projects. Across these different contexts, the approach remains the same: allowing the idea behind a work to determine its musical language, technology and form, rather than the other way around.
