KIA SPORTAGE - FIREFLY

“I tried out a lot of different ideas, gradually finding a musical approach that responded naturally to the movement and atmosphere of the film.”

Dan Samsa was commissioned by Syncsmith to compose the music for Kia’s Sportage “The Lonely Firefly” campaign. Samsa explored a wide range of musical ideas during the process, experimenting with different textures, rhythms and approaches to picture before arriving at the final score. The music was shaped closely around the movement and atmosphere of the film, building a sense of momentum while leaving space for the imagery to lead.

Directed by Lee J Ford and shot in the Scottish Highlands, the campaign launched with a 60-second cinema film across Kia’s Independent Cinema partnership, alongside a 30-second television version and a wider national television and radio campaign.

“What interested me was the contrast between something very intimate and delicate, and the scale and momentum of the car and landscape."
